CollaboratorsIn addition to partners at the national level, during the implementation of CIEN, UNEP Chemicals has collaborated with various organizations:
• USEPA for the pilot phase, training materials, and workshop facilitation
• UNEP IETC for the ESTIS platform Web platform
• The Centro de Gestion Tecnología e Informática Industrial (CEGESTI) has supported the implementation of CIEN in Central America
• INFOCAP on awareness raising and training activities to promote and strengthen involvement in CIEN and INFOCAP
CIEN has also benefited from the financial support from
• The U.S. State Department
• The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
• The U.S. Agency for International Development: Leland Initiative and Central America Program
• The Canadian International Development Agency through the Canada POPs Fund
• The Government of Switzerland (SAFEL)
• The United Nations Environment Programme
In Central America, U.S.AID and EPA work closely with countries under a regional environmental agreement to improve environmental management and coordinate closely with the Central American Commission on Environment and Development. In Nigeria the U.S.AID Leland initiative provided technology support to help provide computers and Internet access.
Together, U.S. EPA and UNEP provide training on Internet access to developing countries and countries in economic transition. In collaboration with these two lead agencies, focal points of each country bring together stakeholders, those that are involved in chemical management from government and non-government sectors, to catalyze the exchange network of chemicals information.
